GPS for Land Navigation – Part 2

An overview of the Global Positioning System, and how to use handheld GPS units in the field for land navigation, with other navaids. Covers pitfalls of GPS and electronic navigation systems, security and other operational considerations also. Be sure to see the other parts (there’s several… I got too chatty probably) to get the whole story.

  1. Kind of off topic, but how did you get the GPS and WIFI on/off buttons on your android home screen like that? Also, great series of vids, very informative.

  2. @Tendrax Which phone? Regardless, both came with the control widgets. Just gotta drive around inside the add-to-home-screen controls to find them.

If you mean the one with the individual little button for GPS, that is an HTC, so it came with the Sense UI, and is not base Android. Dunno if you can get it from the Marketplace if you have a non HTC device, but I’ll bet you can get something. I downloaded an Airplane Mode widget and had a choice of like a dozen free ones. all of which seem to work

there is a US Army\DoD film, its here on youtube i think, showing how jamming affects commercial systems vs. military jamming “proof”\resistant issue receivers. lots of chaps in iraq\afgh. are using commercial receivers since they have fancy maps etc., a potential liability in future wars, since future opfor may have better capabilities in jamming and spoofing.
